Headlight question
What is the deal with the two headlights modes which are to the left of the 'Off' mode? One is an arrow pointing left, one is an arrow pointing right. The manual isn't very helpful, looks like a poor translation, and when I sit in my garage in the dark and play with it, I can't seem to make them do anything. Can someone tell me exactly what they are supposed to do?

they turn on the city lights on one side only. You can use it to park in a dark street and the side facing the road, you can leave the front light and rear light on for that side only. the side facing the payment will not have it on
basically turn the city lights on 1 side of the car only ...

This feature is pretty much standard in all Euro cars... In my old bimmer it could be activated if you'd pull the turn indicator stalk in either direction with the ignition off.
In some European citied streets are very narrow, and parallel parking is allowed with two right (left in the RHD world) wheels on the pedestrian walk. These side parking lights are intended to be used in such cases.

just switch the ignition off, remove the key, then set the light switch in one of these positions - the lights should be on on the side the switch arrow points to.

i can't remember if your ignition has to be in a certain way.. i think when i tested it, my key was not even in .. so that maybe what you should try..
it would make sense to not have your key in for this "option" to work.... they don't want people driving around with just 1 side of their cars lit up
