2003 C320 Bad trans: what to do?
So.. my 2003 transmission has failed. The transmission computer was soaked in oil, I spent $500 to remove it, clean it out and re-install it. Transmission fluid replaced, mechanic said that there was debris in the fluid. The car drove 5 miles and then had to be towed back. Now he says it needs a new transmission and torque converter at a cost of $4500. The car is in good condition, but the repair equals the blue book value. Oh, he'll give me $1000 for the car, that he'll then repair and use in his loaner stock.
What do you think is the best thing I can do with this car?

Get a second opinion and see if they match up. I don't really see how fluid making its way up to the TCU could finish a transmission. It's a common issue, I had some fluid in mine, but I cleaned it up myself.

TCU may have been damaged causing issues.
How many miles on car?
Any previous fluid changes?
Derbies in fluid depending on what he meant could be somewhat normal if the fluid has 100,000+ miles on it.
Did he replace the TCU connector on the side of the trans and test wires going to tcu?
Also $1,000 lol
Engine is probably worth 400, doors $100 each lol and you have A whole car still to go.

This is a prime example of why I always do my own work.
Well, worst case scenario find a junker transmission. Don't go buying a brand new one. The 722.6 is easy to find as it was pretty much the only auto at one point, I don't see it being that pricey.
