Alternator Replacement 2nd time in 49 months

Alternator Replaced twice in 24months
I find it very interesting how the alternators on these cars go out so easily however I have grown to accept this and move on. My main question is since the dealer quoted me an outragous price for replacement of the factor unit in 2012 I went to a large repair shop who could replace the alternator with a lifetime warranty for 1/3 the dealer price. The original OEM unit was seizing, making alot of noise and the main check cluster noted Battery problem see shop. After replacement of the aftermarket unit I had to go in to have the alternator replaced 11/6/2014 however same symptoms of noise and seizing however no alert in the instrument cluster? Is the factor unit fitted with some type of internal sensor which trips the warning on the instrument panel? I dont really care if it does or not just wondering.
Note - My aftermarket alternator was replaced with no cost for the unit and only labor. Although this was only two years later I could go 10 years replacing the alternator every 2 years and still not equal the cost of the dealer replacement OEM alternator.

Auto electrical repair places repair/remanufacture alternators for much less cost of a new alternator. Essentially, they replace the bearings, brushes, and check the windings.
I paid $150 about 3 years ago for my alternator to be rebuilt on BMW.
If the battery is not good, it can put lot of strain on an alternator - leading to problems with alternator.

Did the same myself.
2002 is easy to pull the alternator...takes a 1/2 hour.
