Ipod alternative
I found this alternative that has a 20Gb drive, USB 2.0 support, remote control, integrated Napster 2.0 Music Service, FM tuner, FM direct recorder AND built-in FM transmitter. A quick search on the web showed prices fluctuating between $295-$359.
Hope you guys find this info usefull...

I'm sure there are others besides Archos. My suggestion is, if you want the most value for your money, iPod ain't it.
Better yet... hopefully with all these new and smaller micro-drives, someone will make a device with all these features and small enough to fit in the ashtray area.

I've had the iPod. It's very impressive in all aspects EXCEPT one major one -- the battery life. If any of you can get a video called "Ipod dirty secret" it basically points out that the ipod battery lasts around 18 months and when it's dead you can't get a replacement and instead have to buy another iPod player. I haven't confirmed it since I sold my ipod cuz I needed the cash but from what i seen there is no opening to replace a battery.

There are a ton of iPod Clones on the market. I've gotten to fool around with 5 or 6 at work, and I still like my iPod the best, however, the Rio has kewl features

It's a good site but I'd also suggest eBay. I got a 5gb ipod (!st generation) for $200. I see these newer cheap mp3 players hold only 1.5 gigs and they cost well over $200.

So for $100 more you get 4xs the space then what you paid for 5GB.

On Jan. 6th, Steve Jobs is going to make an announcement at the Macworld Expo and my Apple friends said that they got an e-mail talking about a 3GB iPod for around $100. Now if this is true, its going to kill!!!
referred to:
"First details of the new mini iPods came from this Page 2 report which promised 2GB "mini" iPods in a variety of colors coming as early as January. AppleInsider, ThinkSecret and reliable MacRumors sources filled in some other minor details. Confirmation of colors (one being gold), stripes and 2GB and 4GB sizes came from these reports... as well as a starting price "around $100US".
MacRumors has heard mixed reports about starting prices but consistent expectations that pricing will be significantly lower than current models. According to some, Apple has been targeting prices from $100-$150 for the lowend.
Such pricing would be extraordinary in the current MP3 market... and has lead at least one writer to doubt the release of such a product. This author's doubts, however, are based in speculation rather than any particular insider knowledge."
