2005 Mercedes C230 Kompressor New Owner
Hello everyone. A lot of great information on the site. Just purchased a 2005 C230 Kompressor with 120,000 miles. Have always been a Nissan and Honda owner so definitely new for me. Car belonged to a good friend and he purchased it at 20,000 miles. He has had the car serviced at Mercedes for everything including stuff like oil changes and wiper blades ect. I have always been DIY kind of person on my civic and Nissan so we will see about that relating to this car as I learn more about it. A couple questions.
How do I tell if this car has the Harman Kardon audio system? I would like to install an indash navigation system if it can connect to the steering wheel controls and not involve me having to wire to each speaker.
He has had the mounts replaced in the car. Just had a new battery installed as well as a complete brake job. Any recommendation on any services I should do?
Also anyone's experiences with this model and year car I would like to hear. Thanks everyone!

Well in the rear deck it would say HK but as you just got the car why not sign up for http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/ free with a USA Credit card to verify you are in the USA. Then you can run your vin and get a full build list. If you don't want to sign up PM me the VIN and i will get it for you.
TIMING CHAIN!!!!!! Look into it as they like to stretch on that engine.

Welcome.
If you have HK the rear deck speaker grilles will have it written on there..
Also search for timing chain issues on the M271 engine and decide for yourself which way to go. I bought my 05 with 121k miles, DIYed the timing chain and found it was barely stretched ~2mm. Others have had theirs fail before 80k.
With these cars you never know...just maintain it best you can.

Not too bad, actually. If you know your way around an engine bay it's totally doable and straightforward. It can be done without any MB special tools, but you do need a good set of sockets/torx/wrenches incl some large ones. It also helps to have a helper, especially when feeding the chain in.
In the weeks before the DIY as I waited for parts to arrive, I did massive amounts of research on this forum and others. I was able to do the job without a service manual (which, ironically, I purchased a week later
)
Good luck if you choose to go that route..

Hello flipsk8ter1415,
My wife is the new owner of 2005 Mercedes C230 Kompressor (December 2013). We bought it at 76,000 miles. Now it's at 86,000 miles and it runs fantastic. I wouldn't be too concerned about your timing belt. I know one Kompressor car ran fine beyond 200,000 miles with its ORIGINAL timing chain. Maintenance is a key... always change the oil at 10k or once a year. Always use specification 229.5 motor oil (Mobil 1 Formula M).

2005 Mercedes Benz C230
To start off, I would like to say that I've been looking on this forum for about 3 years now... Ever since I got my first car. (2003 C240 Black Ext Tan Int) and if I might say, this is an excellent place to not only learn but eventually show others and help them as they get into the ownership of Mercs. As for the car, personally I have the 2005 C230 SS version with the AMG bumpers and all the other nick nacks. Performance wise, there is nothing you can really do to these cars besides engine swap ![smash](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smashfreak.gif)
But they are very aesthetically pleasing cars. Maintenance isn't too bad. Just stay on top of your oil and fluid changes. You'll love the car! Keep us up to date as to what you do to it (Rims, suspension, lights etc...)
