2004 C180 Kompressor vs 2006 C230 Evolution V6

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forums and even new to cars so I'm trying to find info here about which used car is better to get in terms of whatever you can tell me e.g. reliability, value, performance etc. The two options are:

1. 2004 C180 Kompressor sports coupe @63,000km mileage ($11,500 AUD)
2. 2006 C230 Evolution sports coupe MY2007, V6 2.5L @102,000km mileage ($14,500 AUD)

Both cars are in good condition internally and externally. Log books are OK for the 2006 C230 done by a 'specialist'. Log books for the 2004 C180 were abit odd as the owner did afew services with his long time friend and paid in cash so the log books weren't stamped. The only stamped services were the first few while the car was under warranty and the last service at the 50k-ish mark and the owner also had the rear suspension and wheels replaced. Both cars test drive OK for the 10mins that I was allowed to take them for a spin. The 2006 has just had its 100k service while the 2004 has not had its 65k service yet. One odd thing is that the 2006 front left wheel is balding whereas the other 3 are fine... what could possibly be the reason for this?

Minor details about the car include both having leather seats, the 2004 having a panoramic sunroof, no reverse/forward sensors. The 2006 has the evolution package and reverse/forward sensors. If this makes a difference to your opinions at all.

I read that the models before 2005 prefacelift sedans had problems but I haven't read much about problems with the coupe's. Is the $3000AUD difference for the 2006 worth it even with the higher mileage?

2 months ago I went from having no idea what a turbo was (no joke) to reading up on as much about cars as possible to try and make a decision so I'm still very noob with cars. I've hit a snag and this is where I need some help deciding. Thanks!

PS: Why do all these cars have that damage to the speakers down at the bottom of the driver door??? All the coupe's I've seen have a damn hole there! LOL!

THE C350
Well the C180 probably has the m271 engine which needs a new timing chain between 75-100k miles as they tend to stretch and jump time. The Transmission will be supper reliable though (assuming automatic)
The C230 should have the m272 which has a few known issues you might want to search about but the bigger concern is that if it is an auto has the 722.9 which in the early models has an issue if you search on here you can read about that.
Otherwise both cars are pretty well sorted do both interiors look the same? I don't know when they updated them in Australia. Wheel baring could have gone out due to a pot hole, curb or just failed it does happen.
The speakers are damaged from the seat belt is a common issue on the coupes and i do believe they sell replacement covers

Yea both cars are auto and their interiors are similar. The 2006 was just detailed as its from a dealer while the 2004 is a private seller so the car isn't detailed.

I have a C200K (manual), and I wouldn't be against a little more horse power...

make sure the 2006 does not have the serial numbers of the affected balance shaft issues, a much more serious issue than the timing chain issue which can be fixed with preventative maintenance ie change the chain. The balance shaft is more involved and much more expensive
