Just paid the deposit on an '06 C280 4matic
I've been test-driving several MBs in the last couple weeks -- mostly 2003 lower C-series and a couple older E350s, but after finding this C280 with pretty much the same options I would have picked if I was buying new (4matic and heated seats for those Canadian winters and a sunroof for those few summer days), I committed to it. I'll be picking it up Tuesday night after it's detailed, certified and e-tested.
I mostly found this forum looking for how to repair the bezel around the shifter. It's cracked and I was able to negotiate down $300 for it
. Now I'm considering vinyl-wrapping the wood look away after 20 minutes of reading this forum, uh oh.
I was wondering if there are any super useful resources (that might not be pinned) that a new MB owner should have a look at (this is my first ownership, just getting rid of a VW Jetta lease)? I still haven't found a PDF of a service manual for free.
I'm likely not going to go all out with mods like some of you have done, but adding a built-in Android tablet for audio/maps in the dash, or at least turning an ashtray into a USB charger with an audio input is likely in my future.
I might also replace the electronic window/trunk control in the driver door. Somehow, every MB I test-drove had a really flimsy window rocker switch... but that's not as fun as an actual mod

I checked the VIN, and it's within the range for the issue, but it currently has 170k KM on it (~105k MI). From what I understand, it usually manifests around 60k-80k MI. I'll be contacting the dealer to see if there's any service record for repairs, but if there aren't, how likely does it seem that the car would be affected given its mileage?
