Replaced Front Windscreen

Had the front windshield replaced today after getting a 8 inch long crack from the rock that got kicked up by a car in front of me. What a production: remove roof moldings - since they tie into the windshield; remove both wind shield wipers; remove plastic piece that goes along the entire rear of the engine bay - have to remove two screws to get this piece off. Disconnect rain sensor and auto-light sensor. Remove old glass and install new one. It took longer to take apart the pieces to install the new glass than it did to replace the windshield itself. Unfortunately, they did not replace with OEM glass - used PPG windshield - had Pilkington initially. Hopefully, I wont have to deal with replacing the glass any time soon again. Luckily, I have full glass coverage - no deductible. $700 for the new windshield.

Maybe you should stonegard the windshield.

I had the windshield replaced under warranty. It developed a stress crack starting near the lower right corner.

Oddly, I did ask the stonegard installer if they could put a layer on the windshield..half way jokingly and half way seriously....no deal.
