Why didnt you get the bigger engine?

Looking at the buy-again poll, looks like lots peeps would like to have got the next bigger engine ... why didnt you?

i try to get the biggest engine i can afford, and i couldnt quite swing the 320 (vs. 230) ... the split at the time was 6-7K and even tho the HP split is like only 25HP i would have if i could have just so there would be no regrets ...

When I bought my coupe (late '02) the only engine offered in the coupe was the 1.8. When I bought my SLK in '98, again, only the 2.3 was offered. If I had a choice I might have gone with the V6 in both cases.

The True OG Modded out W203
When I got the car only choices were 240/320 and not too much haggling on the prices was available to me. On top of that my credit sucked at the time meaning I couldnt finance the extra 5K for the 320. I got my 240 for 37K

2003 C230
Our C230 sedan is for my wife to pick up kids and grocery. There is no need for bigger engine.

We also like the sport package interior. She is not into wood trim (too old).

It is just the combination of price, power, and name (MB) making it good deal to buy C230 sedan.

0% financing anything on the lot. S500, ml320, c240 and c230 coupe. s500 is too big, ml320 has probs, and i don't like coupe's booty (wish it was more like the clk). so settled for c240. was actually going to get a bmw 330xi, but they didn't haggle much.

C230K Coupe/Orion/C4/C5/CD/AMG Spoiler/V60/TeleAid, 2 MGB's
Due to a salesmonkey's mistake and some mad cows in Europe, I ordered my car in May, took delivery of it on Halloween 01 (it has the 2.3, not 1.8).

I had asked while waiting those months if there would be a C320 coupe...they said no, but then they always had less information than the ashtray in the waiting room.

The V6 version wasn't available 'til early 03, so I got what I got. Besides, the I4 2.3 cast block has been around forever. Do I regret the smaller engine? After hearing about the 320's computer, main bearing and crank seal problems (and dealing with it on the E320)...

Hell no!

2003 C240 4matic
I bought the 240 4Matic. The reason I did not buy the 320 4 Matic is that I did not think the extra power was worth the extra money.

I traded in a very fast Audi S4, because I wanted a more comfortable ride without giving up too much in non-track handling and knew I would be satisfied as long as the car had adequate power.

In my test drive of the 240 I felt it had enough power for entering the highway etc. I have been very pleasantly surprised. It, of course, does not have the blazing acceleration of the S4, but it has surprised me with the feeling of plenty of power, especially when on the highway.

Also, it has the best combination of road handling and comfort of any car I have ever owned.

Hmm. the C320 is a Pig?

It felt too front heavy for my taste. The C230K feels more balanced like a bimmer.

I totally understand. We have a 320 at our house and I hate the way it rides...but 99% of MBs were front heavy and rear light....how many 80-90's Es & SELs needed bricks or salt in their trunk to drive in the winter?

I have a friend who picked up a W202 C36 for the same reason (he thought the C43 felt too front heavy with the V8).

actually having the 5.4L v8 doesn't really matters that much for me. It would be nice if the C32 had come with quad exhaust tho, and I really like the new instrument. Still, the new update it's not a whole lot to give up the C32 on a trade. It's not worth taking the depreciation hit.

yup, the C36 is indeed better balanced than the C43, but the C43 has a lot of new updates tho.
