I thought about that but the white plastic thingies are aligned straight up with the star and the large grove on the hood so if I aligned the adapter with the plastic white thingies the hole thing would just come out..right now i have the adapter at like 90 degrees so ....?!
by the way the adapter goes in facing up correct so the U shape is toward the hood of the car?

The "white plastic thingies" are nothing more than grommets that attach the plastic badge to the adapter. They squeeze the plastic prongs on the badge into the hole in the metal adapter, and are plastic to give enough pliability to squeeze the plastic prongs without breaking them. There is no need to superglue the badge to the adapter... It won't come off.
On mine, I pushed the plastic grommets into the metal adapter first (all the way in). Then, I installed the metal adapter into the hood next, tightening the bolt from underneath to 1/8 turn beyond finger tight . Next, (from the top side) push the plastic badge into the adapter/grommets, until the badge lays flat against the hood. This established the correct heights for everything without putting stress on the plastic prongs. Finally, loosen the metal adapter from under the hood and rotate the whole assembly so it lines up to your satisfation, then retighten it.
Hope that makes more sense.

Word,
Thanks everyone for the replies.
I think I'll try what MB Bob suggested, I guess i have to push hard for the white thingies (groummets) to go in all they way in the holes
