Rear Subwoofer on 2006 C 230 with HK Premium sound system
The rear driver side subwoofer, part#A2038205302 is blown on my car. My car is 2006 C230 with premium sound(Harman Kardon). The OEM replacement part is ~500$ and i can get the same part# in good condition for about 130 on Ebay. Also, my dealer quoted about 300$ for labor replacing the woofer which appears too high to me. He quoted about 200$ just to unplug the wire of the subwoofer ! Should i buy the used subwoofer and try to get it installed from outside ? How hard is the effort to replace the subwoofer ? I am wary of having this kind of work done from outside but the dealer is making it really hard for me. Can someone please advise on the cost/labor involved to change the subwoofer and skill level ?
Also, other than changing the fading controls so that only the front speakers output sound, is there a better way to turn off the read driver side subwoofer selectively ?

Crawl in the trunk and look up. It is easy to remove and unplug. Try a local junk yard. They might have one with a warranty.
I think the dealer is jacking up your trousers and rotating your wallet.

The HK subwoofer is above the shelf of the trunk, the wiring is very difficult to get to. You have to remove the the rear seat, the rear shade and the formed cover over the rear shelf. If you have the split rear seats, its a bit easier, but to do it right and not damage the defroster grid in the rear window, you have to know what you are doing. I've done it, but it was a PITA.

Having installed a very custom sound system with rear subwoofer, I can attest that getting to you subwoofer is lots of work. removing the rear seats, lots of side and C pillar trim, just remove the rear deck. Lots of chance of damaging small parts too.
are you sure the sub is blown? have you tested its resistance? Normally the power amp would be hard pressed to damage the sub. may depend on what sort of music you listen to.
