Evap emissions test procedure?
I have the dreaded P0456 code on my '03 c230k and therefore can't pass smog testing. I bought a smoke tester on Ebay and would like to verify it's really the filler pipe before I pop the $500 for the part (I've read some have thrown the code due to a leaking charcoal canister).
Does anyone have the testing procedure they could post?

how often do you get it? I get a evap error a couple times a year, I just reset it and it is fine. I looked under the right rear wheel well where the canister is and there is really nothing much to test. Basically there is a valve that closes the system during initial engine startup to test the system for leaks. It is very hard to get to.. but you can try to see if the valve is working and the hoses are solid. I an scan my Hayes manual that has a basic description of evap operation, but they also say it is very difficult to diagnose issues.
