Engine Hiccup!

This morning, I drove my '05 C230 for the first time in about a week. It hadn't gotten fully warmed up yet and it sort of "hiccuped". For a second or less, it had no power and then it came back, but then I got a series of error messages on the dash about the alternator and water temp and that I should get it serviced. Then the car died. I cranked it up again. It started quickly and without drama. I drove it for a few miles without incident, but picked up Mrs. NCMudbug's car since I didn't trust mine any more. When I checked it, the only code I had was a P0456.

The only things I can think of that could POSSIBLY have any relation to this are: I have been getting P0456s for a while and I'm getting ready to change the fuel filler neck. And as far as I know, I still have the original battery.

Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

I didn't expect the P0456 to have any effect on the car running but just wanted to give a complete picture, but then, I didn't really suspect the battery thinking that cutting out like that was a strange thing for a battery to do even if it is old - I've never heard of anything like that before. But I agree changing the battery is good advice anyway.

I had a problem once where the car wouldnt shift gears. turned out was the battery. used to show fully charged on the charger but due to age(was like 5 years old i think) was causing all sorts of wonky on the car....search the forums youll see lots of wierd stuff occuring due to battery.
Hope you come right bro...

I'm certainly willing to be surprised by what an old battery can do!

Thanks for the reply!

Definitely check the battery. At about 10 years my car began to do strange things, long before I got the Check Battery/Alternator message. All symptoms disappeared after replacing the battery. Also, suck it up and go OEM for the new battery or you will continue to have issues.
