C230 komp coupe diff leak - options?
I know this topic has been exhausted, but I am looking for advice as to what I should do.
This is a 2002 with not a lot of mileage - 120K Km.
After noticing a slight leak on the gage floor, I wiped down the diff and drove it for a few days.
I can now see that the body appears clean but the rear plate seems oily. The plate seems to have some sort of tube going vertically right down the middle, in between those big Torx bolt heads at the bottom.
That almost looks like it's overflowing, but I'm just guessing.
So if I fill it, it will keen leaking. If I replace the oil it may be better for a while, that is assuming the new oil is thicker and won't leak as easily.
If it's not overflowing as it has no reason to, that means the rear plate gasket is shot, so I have to open it up and replace it, meaning the diff has to come off. Ouch!
Not until spring....
What do you guys/gals think? Thank you.
