Question regarding redesigned C...
Hopefully someone can explain this to me...
Why is it that the redesigned C55 has a 5 speed automatic when all the new SLK55 has the seven speed automatic?
Furthermore, why is it that the C350 is nonexistent while the SLK350 is available as well as the CLS350 and the ML350?
Mercedes' logic seems very strange to me. If anyone has any answers I would appreciate it. Comments are welcome. Thanks for listening.

I wouldn't call the C a redesign just cuz they fixed up the INTERIOR...outside sheetmetal is completely unchanged.

The C55 will get the 7 speed at some point. They most likely list the SLK with it since it is not out yet and won't be til summer. By then I bet the C55 get the 7 speed. CHeck the other AMG models for the 7 speed tranny. I know there were issues with programming it to shift like the AMG optimized 5 speed so they were not going in the AMG models yet.

Not sure about the trannys but the SLK will be an all-new car. So perhaps it was was designed into the SLK and not the C. As for the engines, the SLK 350 will be the first MB to get the new 4 vavle 3.5 motor. The ML350 is the old design 3 valve motor and is actually a 3.7 liter. According to most internet sources, the CLS will not be out for a little while. So, only the SLK will have the real 3.5 motor.

you can't really tell if a car has 7 speed inless you get in and start her up and check. otherwise if you can tell the difference between an 03 e500 and an 04 e500 then you wont tell. I believe that the C class is just a face lift. they want to upgrade the interior a little on the exterior, give the car a new light and then in a year or two have it completely redesigned which is why i am assuming they arn't doing anything performance wise besides the added V8 in the C55.
