How Much to Ask for 02 C230?
Hi guys -
I posted this over on another forum also, but I'll also post it here.
I am thinking about selling the coupe and buying an 01 Audi S4, so I was wondering what you guys think would be a reasonable asking price (private sale) for the coupe.
As in my sig, it has C1, C5, Tele-Aid, 6-CD, black/black leather + 18" AMG Style IVs and a Kleemann muffler. It has one place above the rear wheel where a rock stuck and stripped some paint. Other than that it is perfect w/ 14,000 miles and is a Georgia car (no salt). Still has about 2.5 years on factory service/warranty.
I was thinking to start somewhere around $23,000.
Any opinions?

Andrew-
Officially there is no 2002 C230 Coupe- its a 2003 MY. It may have been built in 2002, but......
Your car is worth what someone will pay for it- rather obvious, I know, but the point is: what are C230 Coupes bringing in your area? KBB.com? etc. Similar cars to your specs trade hands for $21K in Colorado, maybe your locale is different?

Andrew, based on where I live, and using kelly blue book private sale www.kbb.com , your car would sell for $18,695. I selected premium wheels, but you could probably add a little more for your wheels. I'm not sure how much more value your exhaust adds.

all the wishfull thinking are great, but I have to be honest...aftermarket wheels doesn't make your car worth anymore than a stock one. The aftermarket exhaust doesn't make the car worth more as well infact it might cause the car to have less value because it's modded.
my suggestion is to take off the wheels and put the stock one back on and sell the AMG rims by yourself, you can probably get more $$ in return. If you can, sell the exhaust seperately as well. A stock vehicle is much easier to sell and get a higher return.
Unless, you can find a buyer with the same taste as you do and willing to pay what you asked for.
edit: keep in mind "willing" is an important word. If you are willing to take some lost for the value of the car and don't want to hassle with putting stock parts back on the car, you will probably sell the car a lot easier too.
also keep in mind that it's already 2004. your car is almost 2 years old if not already.

I'm sure it was just an honest mistake; he was probably thinking of the C230 sedan, or the Coupe with the 1.8 ltr.

Manheim Market Report says they are going at auction for average of $16,700 with 24,000 miles on them. This does not take into account equipment added, just the average for the 32 C230K Sport Coupes that sold in the month of February of this year. Sorry but that is what most dealers in the US go by for trade in value so of course they would sell them for about $18-$19K......

The offer? 16,000. Yep. Lost 42% in less than 2 years. If wait til end of this year the 02 coupe probably worth 11K by then.
What happened to the good old assumption? That MB cars hold
their value very good.

No cars are holding the value now, not just MB's! The problem we have now is it is a buyers market not the sellers, too bad really for the seller but great for anyone wanting a new car now instead of later. So many deals on financing and rebates and mark downs..... The other problem is dealers are using Manheim's Market Report to judge trade in values and of course used cars are selling very low at auction right now. Believe me I see it every week.
