Strange noise from autobox

Hi everyone, I have a 2004 C220 cdi Avantgde that is my first Merc (WHY OH WHY DID I BOTHER WITH FORD SCORPIO'S) Anyway I had to spend a long time in hospital followed by a boring amount of rest, so I couldn't use my car for 6 months (I got one of my daughters to start it up once a week and run it at various revs until it was up to temp and then for another 5 mins. They also moved it up and down the drive to keep the transmission fluid pumping and brakes from rusting up) I have been back on the road for approximately 1 month. I have noticed that when it's warming up it hesitates when changing gear or can't make it's mind up which gear to use. Also it makes a sound very similar to a 'big end knock' until I accelerate then it stops and all is as it should be for a while. I have bought an ATR dipstick from Ebay but instead of showing F & L both hot and cold (like the Ford Scorpio's I'm used to) it is marked with what looks like centimeters ? ? So after all that does anyone know the correct measurement for both hot and cold, to be 100% safe do you know what the total length of the dipstick (NOT ME) should be please. This is driving me mad as I hope it does not need another autobox. Sorry to drone on but you now know as much as I do, by the way the car was perfect before I had to stop using it for 6 months ! Thanks, Kimi

My Gearbox Noise

Thanks for the reply, BUT I don't know anybody else with a Merc C220 Cdi Auto, therefore I still the total length of the autobox dipstick to the level ie:- from the bottom of the red handle to the correct level at 80 degrees. I hope there's a member with enough time to (excuse the wording) measure his dipstick for me. Thank you in advance, Kimi
