Should starter's gears be greased?

Should starter's gears be greased?
I'm rebuilding my starter motor with new carbon brush set. I see the gears inside the unit are dry and clean. I wonder if I should grease them before installing back.
I do worry grease might make them slip, as in my Craftsman drill, which slips easily after I dropped lubricant to the gears.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Took mine apart, replaced the brushes after removing the copious amounts of carbon jammed into every crevasse; used electric cleaner, and a lot of it, which rendered everything very very dry. No grease.
I do believe there was grease in there, on the bendix, and wish I had greased it a bit, because it makes a horrendous noise now, sticks and sometimes grinds on the flywheel, so I'm looking at replacing it in the near future. Yes, something needed to be lubed. Maybe ask a starter rebuild place what and where and post it back here.
