240 newbie question: RPMs @ 75 MPH
Just got a 2004 C240 wagon to replace my beloved 1981 300D that finally bit the dust.
This is a great leap into the technological future for me, but nice to see some familiar items from the old diesel (headlamp switch, blinkers, cruise, etc).
On the highway, the engine is turning at about 3,100 RPM @ 75 MPH.
This seems high to me. I would expect, as with other vehicles I own, that at 75 MPH, the RPMs would be more in the range of 2,500-2,700 with the transmission in overdrive. Otherwise, gas mileage is fine.
Is this typical for this year, engine, and transmission?
Thanks!
