CL230 Sport V6 Idle drifts up to 1600 rpm in park
Once the car is warm and transmission is in park or neutral the idle slowly (3 - 4 seconds) goes from 700 rpm to 1600 rpm and stays there.
If I put the car in gear the idle drops back to 700 rpm but if I put it back into neutral the idle goes back to 1600 rpm.
If I blip the throttle in park or neutral the idle drops back to 700 rpm and then slowly goes back to 1600 rpm.
When the car is cold the idle stays in the 700 range when in park or neutral until the water temp gets up to normal operating temp (about 190 degrees F)
Thanks in advance for any ideas on what I should look for.

M272 engine variants (like yours) have problems with the flaps on the intake manifold, which in recent Mercedes style are made of plastic.
Are you getting a CEL? My girl's ML recently popped up with a code related to the intake.
And it's running high rpm, like you take your foot off the gas and the car is just going without your foot and also it idles at like 1K.
Unfortunately, the only official fix is replacing the entire intake, which supposedly costs like 1500 for the part, plus labor, though some people have glued the pieces back together.
Take a peek over at he ML (W164) forum. Lots of threads.

Thanks for the engine info about M272 engine variants. It gave me a whole new place to look. I'm new to M-B.
I am getting a CEL. Codes are P2187 and P2189 which are lean on left cylinder bank and lean on right cylinder bank. That seems to indicate getting too much air.
I'm leaning toward the IAC not working correctly since I haven't been able to find a real air leak and the fact that a quick blip brings the idle down for a few seconds.
Do you have any idea where the IAC is on the M272 engines?
