2002 C230 dies at idle

2002 C230 dies at idle
Went to test drive a 2002 C230 from a friend. 134,000km - in nice condition.
Everything was great for a while, then it started to die at stop lights. Drove back to my friend. Told him about it, he was stunned - did not happen to him. Anyways we started it up, let it idle. It would idle for a bit (in park), then RPM would drop and it would start to stumble, then it would add a bit of fuel and start idling again.
Once going it drives fine. On highway no problem. So I do not suspect fuel filter, fuel pump or air filter.
We are going to get a code reader put on it next week, but I am just curious of possible issues. MAF? Crank sensor? PCV? Idle air control valve?

As your idle recover from a rough idle, the IAC is working. As the engine runs OK otherwise I would also check off the MAF. Personally I would suspect or at least check the throttle valve maybe cartooned up or you have a vacuum leak.
