Reverse Light Signal Wire

Reverse Light Signal Wire
Hi all: I'm afraid a multi-apology may be due here as I'm a total noob to this stuff, and a total noob to using web forums as well. So if I've posted improperly, or asked a stupid question - apologies in advance. I hope you can overlook and help me
I am installing an aftermarket stereo (AVH-4200NEX) into my 2003 C320 with Bose. I think I have the install mostly figured out and done, including the fiber optic bypass. Here is where I'm stuck:
- I'm trying to install the reverse camera, had have already run the cable from the trunk to the dash, and connected the camera to the HUD.
- The HUD has a purple/white wire that is supposed to tap into the reverse signal wire to know when to switch to the backup camera.
- I have no earthly idea where to tap this purple/white wire in my dash/console, and I'd prefer not to have to run a new wire all the way back to the trunk to tap into the reverse light lead directly.
Any idea whether there is any wire up in the front of the car that I can tap into? Any help would be appreciated!

There is no discrete signal in the dash/console area. The reverse signal is triggered over the CAN network and controlled by the rear SAM.
