No More Free Maintenance & Warranty
For those of us who do our own maintenance (ie oil change etc), will they honor the warranty? How do we proof to dealer that we properly maintain our car when something (under warranty) breaks within the warranty period?
Thanks,
Thanks,

Maintanance such as oil changes have no way to void the warranty, at least they should not. Even if I do not take care of my car and the engine blows up within the warranty period they would have to prove that I abused it to not honor the warranty.

Well, that's a reassuring thought, but the fact is that they can deny any warranty claim if there is an absence of maintenance records showing the car has been taken care of by the book.
You need to keep meticulous records on maintenance, period - whether done at the dealer, an independent, yourself, or some visiting Martian.
The wording in the warranty is explicit - you have to maintain the car and be able to prove it to exercise a claim. Some states are more liberal in their interpretation of your rights than others, but the easiest thing to do is keep records and receipts.

Coming from a family that owned a car dealership for 75 years and the last 30 as a Dodge Car and Truck dealer I can assure you that a warranty claim can not be denied because you did not fill out the book and can prove it with reciepts. MB can not deny me warranty if I do my own oil changes and never bring it in for its services. I have every right to do it myself and I will still get my warranty. Some people may even go to Quikie Lubes, just like before the year 2000 which is when the Services started being included in the warranty period. In fact MB has gone along just fine for the last 100 years without offering free service and still honoring warranty to people who do not bring it to a dealer for service. That is also why it states in the manual how to manually reset the service intervals in the MFD. Service being covered is new to MB, it has not always been there. People will still have warranty and also buy a Benz.
