ESP Warning Codes Driving Me Insane
Hi Guys and Gals, i've got a 2001 C240 (W203) with an ESP warning, i took it to a mechanic and had them run some codes off and got the following:
C1170 - Zero point variation
C1140 - ESP Module - Pins 18,19,20 corroded
C1140-128
N49 - SAS Not Initialised
I've checked the pins connecting the module and there's no evidence of corrosion and the charge from the Battery is 12v (engine off) and 15v (engine running), although two years ago the alternator had to be replaced. I've done the full lock left and right to recalibrate the Angle Sensor but still get the ESP light.
There are a lot of threads (not just here) that mention the YAW switch (it's clean and shows no corrosion although the floor compartment in the boot was damp), wheel alignment, Brake sensor, ECU and god-know what else but i could replace all of these and still have the problem which in the UK is an MOT fail (even when ESP isn't mandatory).
The garage have said the car needs the following work in addition to the ESP:
- Frontal suspension has excessive play in lower suspension ball joint nearside
- worn tyres - Nearside front and Offside Rear
- Rear brake binding offside.
Can anyone give me a definitive (as much as you can on a forum) pointer for what to do here, for example can these three items above that need fixing trigger the codes?
Thanks in advance

Had the ESP problem too. Then the windshield wipers started acting up and would not turn off. The wiper issue was due to a broken wire in the turn signal stalk. Had my INDY read the codes. Replaced the clock spring. Stupid dealer only part that cost me $400. Now ESP is gone and everything works perfect. Good luck with sorting the issue.

Nigel your picture is of the Yaw sensor, not the SAM.
SAM is where the fuses go in the left rear of trunk.
Under removable panel. As far as determining corrosion, no idea.
Isame1 will need to answer that.
