Is my erg valve causing my bad idle?
Chasing down causes for my bad idle, I realized that the erg valve may be the culprit. When I start the car, after a few minutes, I hear a hissing sound which I think is erg valve opening. At the same time, the idle becomes eratic. I cleaned the erg valve the best I could, but could not remove because my aftermarket headers are in the way.
anyone have any suggestions??

Check the hoses leading into the EGR (1 big one, 2 small ones) as well. During routine maintenance recently I discovered all 3 had cracked. Be sure the check the entire lengths of the hoses, including the thin one that snakes across the top of the engine and over to the intake.

I also saw a mercedessource video where they pressure tested the ERG valve.
If it doesn't hold pressure, needs to be replaced...
