Cheap c230k smaller supercharger pully?

Hi everyone,

Ive seen a smaller supercharger pulley on ebay (see link)

the 30+bhp claim seems pretty ridiculous, but if it could squeeze 5 or 10bhp for the money it seems like an awesome mod. I mean the physics/principle seems sound

any thought?

Many Thanks

That small pulley is a ricer upgrade.

If you have an American M271 C230K, then any pulley change is likely a ricer upgrade.

Basically, the American M271 has the smallest pulley and greatest boost possible for the M271, unless the boost sensor is changed, a significant tune is done, and inter-cooler mods/upgrades are done.
Even then, the power gain gets murky for a street-driven car.

Fwiw, I bought a new supercharger and had it professionally ported by Stiegemeier ( http://stiegemeier.com/contact-us/ ).

I also have spent a significant amount of money on replacement/etc components - including a Kleemann header and cat, 100% new head and lifters, tune, etc.

I did not put the ricer smaller pulley on my supercharger.

Fwiw, you should/must run a dual-catch can system because of oil caking on the intake valves. This is a Very Common problem with an OEM supercharger or turbocharger setup.

Do not go with a cheap catch can system. Imho, a good one often costs ~$100+/each.

Fwiw, the ones that I went with cost ~$250 each.

Mishimoto MMBCC-UNI-BK Black Baffled Oil Catch Can
Price: $243.75

Imho, don't ask about mods unless you fully read and understand all that is said in the threads listed below:

Imho, this is not a Camaro or Mustang forum, where many/most of the members are experienced gear-heads who have done and are knowledgeable about the mods for a very specific engine / car-platform.

Good reads for mods/upgrades for an M271 engine:

Hi Red,

Thank you for you in depth response!

I've had a quick flick through and it certainly seems a lot more involved than a bolt on fit and forget mod (and expensive!) very little bang for your buck.

I know a fair bit about modding turbo cars, mainly Japanese but for what its worth on my old Merc for the cash its not feasible.

my car is the uk/euro version and i very much enjoy driving it as is.

I planned to do the pulley and get a remap + air filter, but as the links you posted suggest its not worth it.

Many Thanks

If you don't have the American ~192HP 1.8L M271 engine, then putting on an "American supercharger pulley" may give you a power boost.

However, replacing the pulley is not a DIY procedure. Imho, replacing the complete front snout (from a SC that has a smaller pulley) might be a better choice.

Getting a full custom tune for an M271 won't be easy (I'm not sure it's still even possible).

Fwiw, I went with the OE Tuning option:

Good Luck!
