Calling all Mercedes-Benz C320 Sport Sedan owners

Do you believe your stock car can out-drag a BMW 330i with Performance Package?

We have an '01 320, not sport, it wasn't around back then, I don't think it could take a 330...I think my '03 230 Coupe could put up a good fight against the 320 slushbox (auto).

From a former 3 series owner --

Automatic to automatic, probably very close to each other, maybe BMW has a slight edge with the PP. Manual to manual, it is no contest. The BMW will leave any C320 well behind.

BMW auto trannys give up a lot of zip of the line, much more so than the higher torque MB. However, with the manual, the BMW is much quicker off the line -- even in standard 330 sport form. The performance package is just icing on the cake.

If you want to outrun a manual BMW 3 series, you have to match up against a 325ci, which you should outrun (but not by a whole lot).
All of this assumes drivers of equal ability behind the wheel of each car.

just to answer ur question so u'll leave here for a while, the answer is no, the C320 will not out run the 330 ZHP at any speed.

As a former STEP E46 owner, I think that the 330i will outdrag a 320. But not by much. Also, the 3er will eat the MB in the twisties. In stock form, the 3er with Sport Pkg is one of the best handling stock suspension.

C320
My friend has a 330 w/PP, which only comes in manual form, the biggest difference on the manuals is the shift points. On my C320, the 2nd > 3rd is around 50 MPH, not good for 0-60 times. I drove his car a few times before buying my C, drag racing was not my top priority. The 330 w/PP is a great car though, still very happy with my choice.

Hey, you'll probably lose, but at the end of the day the other guys is still only driving a BMW. You have a Mercedes. Enough said.

Thumbs up Run Ferris, run!!!

I've run up against several 330i's from a stoplight...and won. I don't know if they were PP equipped, but I also know that the straight line performance being fairly close, it will really depend on your reaction times and ESP, if you'll wave the checkered flag, or hang your head in shame.

On the freeway, a good speed to start a run at seems to be 65-70 mph; at least for me, that's the sweet spot.

If they pull on you [on the freeway], the only way you'll catch the 330i is by trying to draft him, and then pull out to pass. You don't even really have to pass him. Just keeping up with him will intimidate the avg 330i owner, and usually they'll back off.

On the twisties...well, with stock susp. and tires; no chance. Proper tire pressure for canyon carving is very important!...but once again, if you are truly one with your car, you won't embarrass yourself.

330i vs C320

i did not post this in the kill stories area because i do not beleave it to be a fare race but just to let you know that a 330i is not far off from a 320's performance.. i have a 4-matic powerchiped it was me and a friend of mine vs my friends 330i auto his girlfriend and her friend in the car.. the difference 120 ibs and i took him he stayed with me first gear but secound gear i pulled my whole car in front of him 3rd gear he maintaint position till 75 and i started to pull slowly away.. he was shocked the difference of the weight would determine the win..on another note i have lost to my friends stock 330CI by a carlegth inbetween to 90 but as the speeds go past 100 i stop his pull and past 110 i start to pull on him... on the highway i have beaten a 330i punched at 80... they do not have the torque to run up into the triple digit speeds.. even my friends manual punched high in my third gear cannot pull from 80 to 120 DEAD EVEN and he had the inside lane on the long turn this was 3 times in a row.. we never got past that speed.. my suggestion get a powerchip and my next step evo pullies and start looking for 330's and surprise them the smile will never wear off...
if your not into mods.. make sure you run up on the highway with them dont mess with them off the line if you have no mods and stay away from the manuals off the line with no mods they are amazing off the line...

330i 0-60 shift??

Does anyone know at what speed the 2-3 shift takes place on a 330iPP? Is it before or after the car reaches 60mph? Manual tranny of course.

Alright,
I've got both cars and this is my opinion. My BMW is a manual so it has a slight advantage.... my bmw also has aftermarket air intake etc... fan delete... underdrive pulleys etc...

The way the BMW is geared it jumps off the line much faster. So when I race my wife from 0-70 or so the bmw will pull her Mercedes.... From 70 -130 though she easily pulls me in my BMW.
