Price range from low $20K to low $30k's for M2 availible sometime in 2005-2006
Wow, I think it looks great. And if they price it like that with those engines...
Benz better come back with some strong sht. the next C-coupe better be ALOT better than the current one (we need an AMG version over here!).
this should be in OT btw.
the 2-series is the coupe for the 1-series, so it's much smaller than the 3/4-series. The size of that car is probably more like a Corolla. MB needs to come up with something that small and would perform great pretty soon.
this should be in OT btw.
From a distance, my C Coupe looks smaller then my buddies Porsche 996, in fact the wheel base is almost a foot shorter. It's really deceiving.
Corolla? The current 3 series is about the size of a Corolla already. This thing gonna be like a Mini Cooper?
And both are indeed roughly the size of the new-gen Corolla sedan we get in the USA. The Corolla is a bit narrower, but otherwise very comparable in every important dimension to the E46 3er and the W203 C.
I ought to know - we own[ed] both an '03 Corolla and an '02 C240. There might actually be a bit more room in the back seat and trunk favoring the Toyota...
In any case, I was hoping BMW would have the guts to import the 1er 5-door, but clearly they've chickened out. Seems we will only get the coupe [i.e. 2er].
Everyone involved continues to assert we will get a version of the next-gen A-class, probably done up as a pseudo-SUV-SAV-crossover thingee, so no one has to be "ashamed" of buying a small car from MB. [This being separate from the decision to import the largest of the next-gen Smart cars - they will be sold out of separate dealerships.]
The North American marketing people for both BMW and MB continue to labor under the delusion that it is somehow heretical for anyone to want a truly small package that is both practical and fun to drive...in the USA. Everywhere else in the world, the 1er is in fact a "family-sized" car.
In our house, it is a mantra that there are few problems in the US automotive world that wouldn't be fixed by $4 gallon motor fuel. Here's another one.
