C300 CLOGGED SUNROOF DRAINS

Hello,

I am a new member and would greatly appreciate any help. I have a 2008 C300 that has been great until recently. My car is at the dealership right now due to some electrical problems (ie battery is draining/auto lamp function inoperative) from water damage due to clogged sunroof drains. Repair estimate $2400. They said it was about $100 in parts and the rest was labor. I am extremely frustrated to pay that much money since it is a design flaw. I submitted it to my insurance and the adjuster looked at the car yesterday and said it is not an act of god so they denied the claim.

Has anyone had this problem and fixed it outside the dealership? Also, can anyone recommend a good service shop in North or Central NJ?

Thanks so much!

Yeah...MB sunroofs...THE BEST OR NOTHING...

You can search here and in other forums and see issues from sunroof and other drains that clog from a design deficiency and fail prematurely. The w220 comes to mind.

I recommend two things for you - IF your electronics are back online - as $100 in parts is cheap...

I would get a spool of small diameter weed wacker line, and fish it down through the drains. DO NOT push hard in the beginning - as you would not want to disconnect the rubber union. Fish it all the way to the drain opening on the bottom of the car - the rear drains particularly have a long way to go.

While you have a w204, the w203 DID have a manufacturing defect and a TSB was issued to resolve some cars that were leaking.

Second, I would get a black magnetic sheet (even if your car IS NOT BLACK) and cut only as needed to width, and round the corners to "look like" a sunroof and cover it until repaired. I have seen MANY glued, taped, silicone sealed, etc. sunroofs over the years and this magnetic sheet - while not a 100% seal is the best and most elegant option I have seen to act as a defense.

Good luck!
