2004 W203 C230 Kompressor Sport, 6-speed manual.

I rebuilt my starter motor 8 months ago. A week ago I left the light in manual-on position overnight and drained the battery. After recharging, it ran fine for a days. Then it wouldn't start, even when the battery is fully charged.

The 100-AMP battery is at borderline of ok and weak.

Since I could hear the click from starter motor, I suspect the copper (in place of carbon) brush I put in might be seizing on the amateur. So I removed the starter motor, and tested it. it turns fine. So I reinstalled it back. thinking sth else must be at fault. But the car starts right away.

But two days later, it stopped starting again, I have to get it pushed up to start the car for the past week - awful. This morning, I hook up a second, backup, just as weak a battery, thinking it must be able to start. But no, I had to push it down my drive way to get it going.

Has anyone experienced this? Any idea what else I should look into?


5/16:I tried today with a high-power jumper, still doesn't start. So it seems battery is not the problem. What else should I check?

it turned out the worn out copper brush stuck on the armature. replacing the brush set solved the problem.
