Is the belt supposed to look like this on the tensioner?

I replaced my belt 2 days ago. I noticed today at start up the belt was squeaking a bit which shocked me because the belt is 2 days old. I'm definitely having a issue somewhere because the belt breaks every 6 months. The belt gets shredded on the edge and then the belt slides off. I took a close look at the tensioner and I noticed the belt sticks out the edge of the wheel. I tried adjusting it but soon as I start the car it sticks back out. This looks like it's natural position. Does this look normal cuz I don't think so. I'm thinking maybe the wrong tensioner was installed before I bought the car from my friend. Maybe this is why the belt is shredding on the edge and slides off once there's not enough surface contact.

Here's a pic

This is my old belt that came off 3 days ago.

No! Belt coming off generally means fun times will be had. I'm glad you have no damage.

The belt tensioner should have a part number below the pulley or on the back. Remove it if necessary and check the number, also check idler and guide pulleys.

Tensioner #s: 2722000270 / 2722000070
Idler Pulley #s: 2722021019 / 0002020919 / 0002020019
Guide Pulley #s: 2722021419 / 2722020619 / 2722020419 / 2722020719

Could also mean that one of the pulleys that feed the tensioner is backing off, causing the outward positioning...

That is definitely not normal. All of the different pulleys should be pretty much perfectly in line. Is the pulley the correct part number?

Mal do you have the right belt for the job ? They go by how many groves that they have in them .If the belt has more groves than the pullys it will be the problem. Just a check in the manual will tell you . Count the groves in the pullys ,then the groves on the belt. And if all is fine with the belt and pullys, then the tensioner is wrong for the engine
