Great idea!! Of course, I know nothing about the auto industry, but I could learn. I spend my days now crunching numbers, trying to determine fashion trend, and whether or not that investment in new product will canibalize our current products, or be the next "latest and greatest" thing. I could always apply this knowledge to the car business! Lets see, what do we need to get started.... I've got a couple of million sitting around collecting dust {ya right}!

Well Henry Ford did not know anything about the auto-industry either (and he had two failed businesses behind him).

As for the millions, you know I know some VCs (opps lingo speak, Venture Capitalists) down the road in Silicon Valley.

But, I just realized we need to use fuel cells so I stop feeling guilty (and complaining about my horrible gas mileage)

If we could just get you to stop complaining about your seatbelts, that would be a good start.

Darn, I'm trying really hard to be creative here and I just can't seem to get a good line going. I think you might have me with that one Tommy. I can't even make a Jersey joke since Rick is part of the conversation.

But you know, now that I think of it, the red welts hit me right were your tattoo is, it would be a bummer to see red marks on that Ying-Yang. (Can we say revenge of the height comment?)

I knew that was going to get me in trouble but it was the only thing I could come up with. And Tommy deserved a shot after that height comment.

Please just enjoy the joke and let this drop.

Thanks

I'd just like to hear your logic for how a seatbelt gives you welts on your gluteous maximus (sp?). :p

Beth, thanks for spilling the beans. You know, I didn't tell everyone here how flexible you were. You just can't be trusted!

Convertibles are fun cars for fun people. You guys sound stressed like you work in an office or something. Right now as you speak there's someone out there going, should I get the CLK320 convertible or the BMW 330 convertible or the Audi A4 3.0 convertible. While there are a few people that would compare getting a CLK to C convertible most are really comparing cars in the same price range.

Now back to reality. For those that want a convertible. I checked and NCE will make one for $15k and will offer 25% off (about $11K) if we put a group buy together. This is for a power top. How many are in! This is probably equivalent to getting a Beemer Convertible but with a much higher degree of exclusivity. Odds are if your car is first it will be showcased in a magazine and appear in many forum posts to come.

Oh yeah and you can kiss your warranty away in the process. Not a good tradeoff in my estimation.

What part of the warranttee would that void? I you saw the roof off I would imagine that they won't warranttee the roof but from the beltline down they would have to unless they can prove that the conversion caused the problem. For example my check engine light goes off because of the coolant temp sensor they would have to fix it (as they have done 3 times already).

Using MB's build your own page I equipped a coupe as closely as possible to a CLK320 Cabriolet. After adding the $15000 cost of conversion to the coupe price, the CLK320 is about $3000 more expensive. Considering that the CLK is designed and built as a cabriolet and has the 3.2 liter V-6 and a bunch of standard equipment not available on the coupe, converting the coupe is not a wise choice unless cost is no object. If I really wanted a Mercedes cabrolet, I would trade the coupe for a CLK..

That's one way to look at it. I own my C230, I paid 25,595 for it. I would have to sell it and buy a 51K CLK320 plus tax and stuff. So if we get some people together for 11K then the car costs me 36,595 vs 51K + tax/lic 5K + deprecition on my car 5K . So for me I'm saving about 14k by convertiblizing and having a unique car. Besides, have you sat in the back of a CLK, not very comfortable compared the C-Coupe.

You have a point on the economics. On the other hand, I don't have to sit in the back seat. Well, it really doesn't matter one way or the other. I can't afford either choice.

Only a fantasy until someone here steps up to the plate, brings their car into Newport Convertibles and starts the process. The website is

http://www.newportconvertible.com./

BTW, I'm not the one that wanted the pictures posted again! I was trying to be helpful and now I get attacked for doing so.
