Surprisingly accurate MPG . . .

I used the last fill-up to check the MPG on the trip computer versus what I come up with the total miles driven since the last fill-up divided by the gallons used.

Surprisingly, it was within 0.1 MPG. Tough to gauge accuracy because of variables such as temperature, equivalent stopping points, etc.

Nevertheless, my confidence in the multifunction computer was confirmed by it.

Best regards,

CP

This isn't exactly related, but...... I read an article recently (maybe car and driver?) about how speedometers are not that accurate, and most are calibrated to read slightly faster than your actual speed. This has to do with transportation regulations (or something like that). But the article also stated that the trip computers are not regulated by this, and in a lot of cases were very accurate. They said you could test this by setting the cruise control on at a certain speed, and clearing the trip computer. Drive for awhile at this speed, and then check the computer to see what the average speed reading is.

speedo

That article was from Car & Driver - April, 2002.

I checked my fuel mileage at the pump and the computer was off by 0.1 also.

I'm enjoying my C230, now a month old and 2800 miles. I'm averaging 25.5MPG/tank with a mix of driving. This week has been all highway commute (45 mile highway commute with speeds up to low 80's) averaging 62MPH and 27.9MPG. I am very happy with the numbers so far.

I've been keeping track of mine and it seems to be off by around 1.0 MPG. Most of the time the computer is over- once it was under. I'm thinking that I'm doing something wrong after reading your results.
