Balance shaft failure
2006 C230 Sport
Got the dreaded P0016 and P0017 codes.
Can't find any info on pulling a M272 V6. Lots of info and vid's on replacing shaft and setting timing with engine on a stand. Nothing on how the engine got there.
Bought a copy EPC/WIS from MB WIS/EPC. Geek at computer store can't get to load up. He scaned the forums and youtube how to's and tried every program he has. Nada. Thinks it may be bogus.
Regardless, any info on pulling the engine would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Dave.

WIS does not have a dedicated chapter for removing the engine as a whole. you'll have to read through all the engine related chapters which means you'll have to get WIS working. post your VIN and hope somebody ( me included) has some spare time to find something helpful.

VIN is WDBRF52J06F749152.
Purchased thru mbwis.com. Came from Argentina. He says it has Russian stuff in it. The tech has his own computer store and spent a whole day trying to figure it out. I got to step 1 and I was done. Computer caveman.
Thanks for the kind reply and offer.

Yes, I did this to confirm. Right bank is out. A schooch. Left bank ok. Caught it early. Found some very small particles in oil pan. Saw some vid's on Youtube where all the teeth on the sprocket were gone.
There was a class action law suit on this. Mercedes settled,
but only on cars exhibiting the fault code and agreed to pay up to 70% of the repair bills. Offer timed out in 2015. If you develope this problem after that, you're screwed. i.e. Me.
They never notified any of the owners that had the bad VIN's that weren't yet having the problem, and didn't legally need to. I talked to Mercedes directly.
I opined that they went from a great car company to chicken manure outfit.
MB, never again.

I've taken the engine out. But, there are two big errors. You cannot remove the engine/tranny with the left motor mount on the engine. And, you must remove the lower steering shaft.
