On my C203 compressor, the gear does not transmit and the speedometer does not also move once I engage and start moving, I have to stop, off the car and restart then it picks up and start moving smoothly. Its a frequent occurrence lately. What could be the possible reasons for this? Thanks.

Could be loads of things like a faulty gear selector switch, or a faulty conductor plate. Get the car diagnosed by someone other that your girlfriends brother. Someone who has the diagnostics and the experience to use them.
