Where is the ESP sensor located?

There are many sensors used to determine what ESP does and how to react to what is happening. You have wheel speed sensors on all 4 corners, some sort of yaw sensor in the center of the vehicle somewhere, of course sensors for how much fuel is flowing and throttle position, then this is all tied together and monitored constantly.

My warranty is expired, and I enjoy working on cars.... and my wife has gotten the infamous ESP light coming off and on every once and a while, and I was going to try cleaning the connection to the wiring harness before replacing the wiring harness, but I didn't know where the main unit is located.

If so, check tire wear or you got a new PAIR of tires, their may be a height difference between the old and new that is invoking it.
