Anyone have a MB Transmission dipstick?
2002 C320 Wagon 88,000mi
I just did a drain/refill on my 722.6 MB transmission and did it using the replace-what-you-drain method, and measured exactly 4.5 quarts, so that's what I replaced, plus 2 oz for drips and such, but I want to properly measure the level since though my trans was not leaking, in 88k miles, some may have leaked/evaporated in 16+ years of use.
I have an after-market MB dipstick, but the bottom 3" is market in dots numbered 1-12 rather than specific marks showing acceptable ranges at 35 deg C and 80 deg C like the OEM MB dipstick.
I wonder if someone that has the "official" dipstick could please measure the distances from the absolute bottom of the dipstick to the lower, and upper range lines for each temperature so I can correlate them to my dipstick. I will file small notches on the edges of mine at those distances for quick reference.
I will be using that same dipstick for my SLK and MB Sprintervan, so having a "universal dipstick" is nice, but I need to calibrate it.
Thanks,
Bob
(Also, when I removed the factor sealed plug/cap on the dipstick tube, the "O-ring" stayed in the tube, and fell out when I fished it with a pick. I used a new one, but was surprised that the cap did not have a groove to retain the O-ring. I suspect when I next remove the plug, the ring will again be lost. Do NO plugs have an O-ring groove?)
