ran out of diesel

Hi, I ran out of diesel in my c220 cdi 02 plate and I put approx 8 litres in it of which it started after some cranking, seemed fine so i drove it but after approx 5 miles the epc warning came on and now it will not start.I have changed the filter and put a bit more fuel in but still no joy,
Has anyone got any ideas what the issue is,

Most likely there is an air bubble in your fuel line somewhere. Some say that cranking several times with the throttle against the floor will purge the bubbles, though this may not work on the W203 which uses an electronic throttle. Try reading up on how to purge the lines (this is a problem inherent to all diesel engines). Good luck.

I would assume you have already taken care of this, but for future reference, if you run out of fuel you need to bleed the air from the fuel lines before cranking. The procedure for this is the same as for a fuel filter change.

Pop the ignition key in and turn it to position II. Keep it there for 10 seconds, ignition to 0, rinse and repeat 5 times. This will bleed the low pressure fuel lines and prime the high pressure fuel pump. During this cycle the low pressure fuel pump will run fuel through the feed line, through the filter to the high pressure pump, from there on it will fill and bleed the return line to the fuel tank. It might not start on the first go because odds are you'll have drained the high pressure lines but it should start once those lines are filled.
