Total loss yet totally driveable :(
So I got rear ended yesterday. Superficially, the bumper looks fine, but underneath the frame's bent. Body shop guy said they'll consider it a total loss which SUCKS b/c I've put so many hours and money into maintenance. This thing was going to last me another 100K miles. In Georgia, it's kind of unfair. If the repairs are 75% of the total value, they consider it a total loss, write you a paltry check, probably $2,500 and then TAKE the fkcing car! Or I subtract the salvage cost and keep it but I can't drive it until it's been repaired/inspected and that'll cost WAY more than $2,500. So basically, either way I lose the car- the perfectly driveable car. I'd love to hear some brain storming ideas of how to win here, but I can't see clearly right now. Could a repair shop pull out the frame so I'm safe in the event of another rear end collission and then I can keep driving her? There's enough damage to the trunk and front to justify a decent repair check assuming they don't look under the bumper and see the frame damage.
