My wife's '06 C230 will occasionally have a burning rubber smell in the cabin. There is no squeaking or anything. It's past time to change the serpentine belt and I'm ready to do that but I didn't want to change it and have it torn up if there was something else wrong.

Is there something I should be looking for or should I just assume it's the belt and install my new one?

i would check to see if all the pulleys are still spinning freely. If so put the new belt on while you are at it.

Thanks, insame1! That was going to be my plan but since it is intermittent, I was wondering if there was something specific I should watch for.
