Help in San Jose CA
Hi. Mercedes DIY here in Canada. My son is attending school in Santa Clara, California. His 2002 C240 (W203) has s failed fuel pump. The shop he brought it to wants $1000USD to replace the fuel pump, relay and furrl filter. I’m pretty sure he just needs to change out the fuel pump and $1000USD doesn’t sound reasonable.
Anyone in the Santa Clara area have any suggestions?

Is he handy? It's a 1 hour DIY job with a 10mm socket and large channel locks. The pump can be bought on Amazon for $60-100. All the info on how to do the job is available online. It's a good idea to also replace the fuel filter because the fuel pressure regulator is built in. It's $25 and an additional hour of work.
The $1000 he was quoted is absolutely reasonable for a reputable shop using dealer parts. If you want to save some money, buy your own parts online.

Have him call Dennis at Pit Row in Santa Clara, it's a DIY shop, but he can hire Dennis to do the work, with parts your son can supply. And btw I have a wholesale account at the local dealership closeby.
