2006 C350 key wont turn in ignition, alarm randomly goes off

2006 C350 key wont turn in ignition, alarm randomly goes off
Hello all, my 2006 MB C350 was just driving fine yesterday. I go to put the key in the ignition, and it wont turn. The electronic key does unlock and lock the doors. A few hours ago I tried it again, and the key turned and started the car. But tested it a 2nd time an hour later and again it doesnt turn or sense the key.
Could it be my key? The EIS (Electronic Ignition Switch), the battery in my car? I am lost at this point and dont quite know what to do as this is my first car with an electronic key like this.
to add, i saw outside my fog lights were flashing on and off, so im assuming it was my alarm going off, yet with no horn.
