EPC Terminology. Clarification Required - Optional With

Hi all,

What does it mean when EPC states "Optional With"?

I am looking for a used part for my combination contact spiral with steering angle sensor.

Original installed part is
A 169 464 06 18
which was replaced with
A 169 464 08 18

Under A 169 464 08 18, it says
- Optional with: A 169 464 12 18
- Optional with: A 169 464 15 18
Nothing else is listed below these 2 "Optional with" lines.

Does this mean any one of A 169 464 06 18/08 18/12 18/15 18 is compatible with my car?

Thanks in advance.

If in doubt, just get the 0818 part. MB has the wackiest parts system.

One can also call the dealer (tell them your VIN) to get the definitive answer. I honestly have no idea why they sometimes have 4 variants of the exact same part.

Thanks slammer111!

Went to the MB dealership and spoke to a nice fella at the parts department. In case anyone else out there finds himself in the similar conundrum I am in, he provided an insight into this mysterious "Optional With" statement in EPC.

If EPC has 2 or more differing part numbers under the heading "Optional With" and no other text listing the specific differences (eg. Sports model with paddle shift, etc) then it is an internal MB numbering system to identify different suppliers. In terms of functionality, they are identical.

The current part number that MB is able to supply for my car is A 169 464 15 18. Part number A 169 464 12 18 is from a different supplier, but is identical to 15 18. For whatever reason (and only MB knows this) 12 18 is not available from their spare parts dept. It could very well be that the particular supplier has discontinued producing that particular item, or it could be some logistics issue preventing MB from carrying that particular part.

Thanks.

Regards
