SRS light -- tools?
Hi all,
My mother has a 2003 C320 which she absolutely loves. Recently, the SRS light came on and she took it to a dealership I've had bad luck with. They said they'd "have to replace some parts before" they knew what was wrong. Is there an aftermarket tool for scanning the SRS status and getting a better idea of what the car is upset about?

Yes, the commercial grade Snap-on code reader (there are other ones out there) that most indies have should be able to read the code in addition to clearing it. The typical $20 eBay ones will not work for SRS codes as it uses a different protocol. Hopefully there's an indie in your area that can read and clear the code for free or nominal cost.
If the SRS is indeed caused by a hardware fault (can be an airbag, seat belt clip, or seat sensor among other things), the faulty part would need to be replaced.
