Lock pin won’t screw in ?

i have a 03 4matic I recently just bought. Almost in near perfect condition. I noticed that on the rear driver side, the door was missing a lock pin , but for some reason the lock all doors button on the dashboard still works for that door and the door itself actually locks and unlock, but only with the button on the panel. But I decided To Buy a new lock pin and to my surprise when I tried to screw it inside, the place where it should attach and twist into was literally not there at all. The lock only just sinks in there. Could anybody tell me what might be wrong and how to go about fixing it?

My door wasnt locked. It just sinks in there like that not touching a thing inside

The plastic knob scews into a metal pin hidden inside the door. My guess is someone had that door panel off at some point and didn't reinstall the metal pin properly. You'll need to to remove the door panel and see what's going on inside.

Yes, the lock rod is definitely loose in there...if you take out the pin and operate the lock/unlock with the fob...can you see (hear) the rod knocking around? Try to align it with the hole and then screw on the pin.
