Transmission rebuild vs replace

My 2001 c320 has around 103k miles and recently the transmission seems to slip during the 2nd-3rd shift . When it shifts it seems to over rev alittle then shift into the next gear , as if I was driving a manual and didn’t let off the gas while shifting. I just let off the gas and manually shift it when I go from 2nd to 3rd to avoid doing anymore damage . How much would it cost to replace the transmission in this , I’ve already done the updates from the dealer. I don’t plan on having the car after another 30k miles so I don’t want to put a brand new transmission in it , where can I get a cheap running transmission?

Hmm, you're asking about replacing something major like a tranny, but you don't even list the country you're in?

Therefore, all we can logically conclude is that you are screwed because no one ships trannys to Jupiter.
Sorry. :-(

Btw, I heard that the big red spot storm is changing again. I hope that doesn't effect you.

Look for a local place.

Or ebay. They had a bunch under $600 (incl s&h).
However, you may want one with a lower mileage, or from a more rural place (more likely longer drives).

Btw, because of a friend, I know the difference between "Penn" and "Univ of Pennsylvania".

Good Luck!

"Soft" shifts are rarely a major transmission problem. They are most usually caused by vacuum issues. A little effort trying to locate a vacuum leak could save you a bundle of money. You have, of course, checked you transmission fluid level?

There there is nothing vacuum control on the 722.6 transmission.

To the OP: if the transmission is behaving oddly there's usually a code stored in the transmission computer. In order to access the codes you need either a star diagnostic tool or an icarsoft scanner. The 722 .6 is extremely robust and nearly impossible to kill. The two failure points oil leaking out through the electrical plug into the TCM, and a conductor plate inside the transmission. Both components are easily replaced with the transmission in the car and far cheaper than even a used transmission. If you're handy you can do either job. If not take it to a Mercedes specialist. I suspectI suspect you do not need a new transmission.

There are no codes and the conductor plate was already replaced , fluids are good.

Stuck in Second

I'm in Florida, USA
2001 C320
I've replaced the conductor plate and fluid
still Stuck in Second.
I was wondering if the shift solenoids could be the problem??
Looking on eBay it always tells me these parts won't for my car?? I looked up my vin and got the build info. According to that information my trans should be 722.612
One listing on eBay says it's for c320 96 and up
Yet, this part did not fit my car.
It lists 722.603 and 722.620-633
This seems to suggest my these shift solenoids won't fit our won't work in my trans even though it's the same car, the same year, basically the same car, and they even look the same...???
- I'm not sure getting the solenoids will fix my problem.
Also my dash flashes red and there's a SOS message.
Any help is greatly appreciated...

I learned that the flashing red dash is a "hood open" warning... Left side currently went latch.

I also learned that after changing conductor plate, TC connector, and fluid, the error codes must be erased to get trans putt of limp home mode; I'll attempt that tomorrow and let you guys know how it turns out.

(I purchased this c320 from an indifferent owner who totally neglected it in every possible way. Since the cost was low, I decided to try and resurrect it...)

Yes, stuck in 2nd is "limp mode". Really unlikely to be solenoids. If you 're not getting codes, it's probably becaus you're not
reading the codes from the TCU with a Mercedes specific code reader. I'm guessing you're using an OBD code reader.
In the case that you did want to purchase new selenoids, i would definately get the pn's from Mercedes.
Everything else is waste of time. I used to have an EPC account when they were free, you need that to
get accurate part numbers, and even then, the dealers have more current info and
often superseded part numbers provided by me.

Rarely a need to replace a conductor plate at 100K miles. I'm at 240.5K
and 4 fluid services in the lifetime of the vehicle.
Supposedly one done by a dealer 4 quarts at 80K, but
at 120K the tranny acted like it was dying.
A FULL Flush of all the fluid fixed it.
Did it again at 180K and more recently 4 quarts at
220K, still running strong.
Likely it was just the fluid.
Now, as stated, you need to reset the tranny, and see if that fixes it.
Hope you installed a genuine conductor plate, and not some crap from
China.
