Alarm Siren Replacement C220 Estate
Hi,
My alarm siren has stopped working and so only the indicators flash once the alarm is triggered. I've looked at the price of a replacement siren unit and I'd rather not spend that much if I can avoid it. If I replaced the siren with a standard 12v siren, would this operate as a suitable replacement, or does the oem one contain any extra electronics aside from the battery backup?
Thanks in advance.

I'm currently experiencing the same problem and found this article during my research: http://www.mercedes.gen.in/mercedes-...larm-problems/ It appears that there is a circuit board inside the alarm.
While I was hoping to save some money with a generic replacement I thought that it would be unlikely to have all of the functions of the OEM part. I had an error code in my rear SAM (B1078) pointing to a problem with the siren, so at a minimum the OEM unit is communicating with the SAM. I think it also causes the lights to flash when someone is attempting to tamper with the car. I concluded that the best option was to by a replacement designed to work with car.
Based on your reference to an "estate" I'm assuming you are not in the U.S. The best price I could find for the unit here was $135 at this site: https://www.rmeuropean.com/Make/Merc...x?search=siren
They ship free in the U.S.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I am in the U.K. and new prices range from around £120 ($160 US), with used versions ranging from around £25 ($33 US) upwards but they could equally be affected by the same leaking battery issue as outlined in the link that you shared. Whereas, a simple 12v siren could be bought very cheaply, for around £2.00 ($2.69 US).
I haven't detected any error codes relating to the siren as of yet.
Cheers for the information.

The article implied that you can disconnect ithe siren without causing harm. That would be the least expensive solution. However, it is not clear that the author actually tried the disconnect option.
