No 4matic badge - how to confirm it irealy is AWD?

apologies have not been able to find an answer to this.

Am looking to buy a used c240 wagon 4MATIC and found a 2004 model but it has no rear badges on it (c240 and 4matic badge missing) so I’m not 100% sure it’s a 4matic.

I ran the VIN decode on mbworld decoder and it states it is 4matic and the carfax states it’s a 4’matic.

If I physically inspect the car, are there any markings on the interior stating 4matic to look for or can I confirm it’s a 4matic by looking under the hood and seeing the front trans components??

Thanks in advance.

Crank the steering wheel all the way over and look at the suspension behind the front tire. A 4matic w203 had front axles like this.

A RWD w203 does not.

TJTS -thanks very much my friend! super helpful! the VIN shows on carfax as a 4matic but the used car dealer (honestly) stated he wasnt sure since he rarely gets mercedes cars on his lot. i will look for the front axles as you suggested.

thanks again!

the dealer wasn't sure. Is he sure it's a car and not a motorcycle? How can he be sure? Too funny.. dealer has no clue how to tell if a car has 4wd..

yeah i felt stupid asking him actually but this used car shop doesnt get many mercedes so he didnt know..... plus i have a e-class 4matic and should have known what to look for with the front axle

i was able to run the vin through EPC and it confirms its a 4matic, plus Carfax confirmed it, plus several of the mercedes vin decoder sites (including mBworld's) confirmed it.

4matic's also have a "bump" on the PAX side floor where the front transfer case sits. - NP

Thanks folks for you help to figure out my no badge 4matic wagon question!

Heres the beauty that I bought that’s in near perfect condition and as you see has no rear badges but definitely has a front transmission and 4matic!!
