A/C Question
A/C Question
Usually, I leave the A/C in "Auto", but when I open the roof, I have been pushing the "EC" button which I thought turned off the A/C compressor, right? Anyway, the air from the vents does not get any warmer which I would have expected. In fact it's just plain cold. When I turn off the "Auto" button, the temp from the vents drops, but the vent air is still very cool compared to the outside temp. Am I doing something wrong? Should the "Auto" setting be left alone in that it will adjust itself and turn off the compressor? Do you think the "EC" is not turning off the compressor? Thanks!

There was some discussion about this many months ago, and some of us did some "testing" to confirm we all had the same thing. There's a delay of a few minutes from when you punch "EC" and the cold air stops. We noticed that the compressor clutch seems to always be engaged so we weren't sure exactly how it worked. Try it again and just wait a few minutes. Also, if you know you won't want A/C on your next trip, if you leave "EC" engaged when you shut off the engine, you won't get cold air on the next start cycle.
Now that it's warm here I used the AC for quite some time yesterday. After I turned off "auto" I thought I heard/felt the compressor turn off but, the air remained cold. This continued for some time.
I know nothing about AC systems, but I think the system somehow retains the refrigerated air (if that's even possible) and continues to blow the residual air out the vents as long as it can. This is sort of like using the "Rest" mode when you turn the car off. I thought it just kept the fan on but maybe it scavenges cold air from somewhere.
