2006 C230 Tire wear - lower control arms?

Hi everyone,
2006 C230 with the v6. It has about 120,000 miles.
Just had it in for the airbag.

Front tires have bad wear on the inside and outside edges. I had wear and did a alignment recently.

Dealer said i need to replace the lower control arms due to the thrust bushing wearing. Does that sound correct? Is it DIY? I see you can buy the control arms for a reasonable price but am worried about getting the a arm off.

Thanks,
Terry

Find a better mechanic. Your car doesn't have A arms.

The W203 eats front control arms, even with proper alignment. Personally I've had bushings, ball joints, and ball joint boots go bad. Many other forum members have mentioned this too. Think of it as regular maintenance.

The lower arms tend to fail more often. I assume these ones are subjected to more stress, as they are made of steel, unlike the aluminum upper arms.

It's very obvious when a ball joint goes. The car develops a shake when the brakes are applied or when driving down a straight road.

As for the tires, the fronts wear the edges first. This is caused by the high caster angle. If you don't have a staggered setup, rotating between front and rear is a good way to spread the wear a bit.
